A Professional Organizer’s Guide to Organizing Bathrooms
It’s no secret that bathrooms can be a tricky area to organize. Between oddly placed pipes under the sink and narrow vanity drawers, it’s not always so simple to squeeze everything your client needs into the space. While simultaneously making it as tidy as can be, of course.
The good news is that there are plenty of products on the market that maximize the space, especially for small bathrooms. The Design
Focusing first on the overall design of the space will make the process of using Sortifi even simpler. Are you working with one vanity drawer or eight? Is the cabinet under the sink a decent size or is it practically non existent? Does your client’s current bathroom contain all of the contents of a CVS? Or are they more minimalistic with their products? Once you have a bird’s eye view of the bathroom project, it’s time to divide and conquer.
Sorting like with like and creating zones is going to make all the difference in your client’s daily routine. And, as we know, no two routines are exactly the same. Once you have a rundown from them about the products they use the most often to the least often, then you can establish the zones.
FYI you can build templates around typical categories to avoid recreating them with each new project.
Psst! One way to get ahead in your design is to create a draft in Sortifi based off of photos that your client sends. From there, you can print it and bring it with you onsite to add in the dimensions.

The Measurements
We already know the challenges of measuring bathrooms, particularly under the sink. We compiled a few tips to help …
Under the Bathroom Sink
- Always measure the width from inside door to inside door and take any hardware into account if applicable.
- Always round down to the nearest half inch i.e. if the width is 20.33″ round down to 20.00″.
- Don’t forget to measure the height from the bottom to the top of the cabinet.
- Carefully measure the area around the plumbing:
- From left to plumbing
- From right to plumbing
- From the front of the cabinet to the plumbing
- From the cabinet floor up to the bottom of plumbing

Bathroom Drawers
- Don’t forget to measure the height of the drawer’s clearance, rather than just the drawer sides.
- Account for any hardware that takes up space inside the drawer like the inside of knobs or handles.
- Always round down to the nearest 1/2″ i.e. if the width is 12.67″ round down to 12.5″ to ensure that any organizers will fit properly.
